San Diego City Group Denounces Vigilante Groups

August 2, 2005

Human Relations Commission Citizen’s Declaration

The Human Relations Commission and the citizens of the City of San Diego do not welcome armed border vigilantes to San Diego.

Grievances regarding the enforcement of laws, specifically immigration laws, should never be left to arbitrary decisions of armed vigilantes. To do so would pose a grave danger of acts of intimidation, harassment, abuse, and lawlessness.

Acts of violence and hatred of any form must be restrained. The dignity of all people must be respected. Human and civil rights should never be violated.

The enforcement of immigration laws rest in the hands of trained individuals who have passed security background checks and have been sworn to uphold the law as peace officers and as federal agents.

We the people of the City of San Diego do not tolerate lawlessness.

We the people of the City of San Diego repudiate Vigilantism.
