US-VISIT Program

August 3, 2004

Thirteen additional air and sea ports have been added to the U.S.-VISIT (United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology) program. Under this program, certain foreigners are required to provide fingerprints, photograph and other biometric identifiers when they enter and leave the country. The program also allows for handwriting samples, iris scans, retina scans, voice patterns and other methods that would verify identities. The US-VISIT program, which was required by law to be implemented on December 31, 2003, is expected to be in place at every land, sea and airport by the end of the year.
