Kalpana Chawla Way

July 13, 2004

Immigrants have a long history of giving back to the country that has adopted them, including giving their very own lives for the U.S.A. Kalpana Chawla, the Indian astronaut aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia, was one of those individuals. She was born in Haryana. She immigrated to the U.S. where she worked as a NASA aerospace engineer and logged more than 376 hours in space! Today she was honored by having a New York street named after her.
